Our commitment

Shahjed BuildWorks Inc. intends this website to be usable by as many people as possible, including people using screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, screen magnification, or a browser with motion or colour settings changed.

We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA, which is the standard referenced by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. We treat this as ongoing work rather than a box that has been ticked.

What is built in

• A “skip to content” link as the first thing keyboard focus reaches on every page.
• A visible focus outline on every interactive element, in a colour chosen to stay visible against whichever background it sits on.
• Text and background colours checked for contrast, including secondary text on the dark sections.
• Headings in a real order, so a screen reader can navigate the page by structure rather than by guesswork.
• Form fields with real labels, hints tied to the field, and errors announced next to the field they belong to rather than only as a summary.
• Meaningful alternative text on images, and decorative graphics — including the framing drawing on the homepage — hidden from screen readers or given a description of what they depict.
• Full respect for prefers-reduced-motion. With motion reduced, the homepage drawing appears complete rather than animating, and nothing on the site slides, fades or moves.
• Layouts that reflow to narrow screens and to zoomed text without content being cut off or requiring sideways scrolling.

What we know is not perfect

Being straight about this is more useful than a blanket claim of compliance:

• The framing drawing on the homepage is described in words to assistive technology, but it is a detailed technical illustration and the description is necessarily a summary.
• Project photographs are described by whoever uploads them. If a description is thin or missing on a particular photo, that is a content gap, and telling us about it is the fastest way to fix it.
• PDF drawings that a customer sends us are their files, not ours, and we cannot guarantee those are accessible.

Alternatives to the form

If the inquiry form does not work for you for any reason, you do not have to use it. Reach us directly through the contact page and we will take the details whichever way suits you, including over the phone.
